Oceans Journey preview

Oceans Journey is a book being written by Catherine Torres that features real people in a fictional situation. Here’s a preview.

My sister, Jay, and I decided to go on a cruise during the summer for vacation! I graduated from high school three years ago now. Still haven't gone to college and not planning to either. I have my life pretty set already.

My sister and I began a website where we can do literally anything we wanted and share it with the public. I write blogs, she does photography and we both do podcasting. I’m twenty years old so we do get officially paid for making podcasts and that’s pretty much my job as of right now.

It's been a few years since we’ve had our website and the feeling is amazing when we’re out getting lunch and suddenly, we see someone wearing a shirt with our logo on it!

We ended up saving the money we made from our website and money sent to us for birthdays and stuff to have enough to go out and have a bit of fun!

I would have just asked my parents but when you use your own money that you worked so hard for; it makes the experience so much better! 

I'm currently in my room packing up some light sweaters for the summer. I have no idea what the actual name is, but I call them sweaters. They are very light and thin. More like a piece of fabric thrown over your shoulders and no zipper. I love those things! They must be long though; I feel uncomfortable if it’s not. I pack a second pair of shoes just in case.

Now I did pack a swimsuit, but it may never come out of the suitcase because I'm so insecure. I pretty much have an outfit for every occasion just in case! I’ve always been the one to carry everything.

I always had a purse with me when so was younger. Did someone get a cut? I got a band-aid! Does someone need to jot some information down? I have paper and a variety of pens and pencils! Children can’t shut up? I got candy to shove in their mouth! No, but seriously, I had everything. I’m surprised someone didn’t want to go on top of a building and I whip out a 200 ft. tall ladder! 

I take my luggage out to the living room and place it by the door. I go into the kitchen to grab a bottle of water since it is hot! I see Jay with a backpack come out of the hall where our rooms are located. She’s wearing a white Mickey Mouse shirt with black yoga pants with black and white sneakers. Her hair is tied up and she has recently got her highlight done again.

My sister and I dye our hair, but I do more! I’ve had it done like every color! Now I have an ombre of my natural hair color and golden ends while my sister has her natural hair color and just one small streak on the right side which is also golden like my hair.  

Jay: you ready? 

Kitty: don’t tell me you’re only taking a backpack! 

Jay: no!... I have an empty bag in my backpack to bring back souvenirs! 

Kitty: what about clothes? 

Jay: I’m taking money so I can buy stuff on the boat! 

She says as she runs out the front door. 

Kitty: what about the necessities like a band-aid! 

Jay: buy some on the boat! 

I look in a drawer for some band-aid and stuff it in my luggage. We won’t need it, she says. Oh, but how wrong was she...
