What is mental health? According to the online dictionary, mental health is a person’s condition with regard to their psychological and emotional well-being.

Can mental health get sick? Well, yes, yes it can. Mental illness, also according to online research, is wide range of conditions that affect mood, thinking, and behavior. This can also be called mental disorder. Some of the well-known names of mental illness are:

Clinical depression

Anxiety disorder

Bipolar disorder

Obsessive compulsive disorder

Post-traumatic stress disorder

Schizophrenia

Depression is a mental illness that is wide world known. Depression is a state of mind when the person feels upset for long periods of time. Depression affects people of all ages in different ways for different reasons.

When others hear the world depression they automatically think that depression leads to self-harm and suicidal thoughts. This is a myth. Not all depressed people are suicidal. There are people who suicide does become one of their solutions but could be different for others. Some could be depressed but not suicidal. The thoughts could come up but they don’t want to take that path. However, for those who are suicidal do need to seek help. If you do in fact know someone who is suffering please say something. These people tend to tell someone and afterwards tell them to keep it a secret. In reality they are secretly hoping for this person to break the promise and tell someone.

Other mental illnesses are anxiety disorder and bipolar disorder. There is also schizophrenia, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and several more. It could be difficult for a person to live with a mental disorder. Mental illness can’t be seen physically (sometimes) so others might not even know they need help. Some try to hide their disorder because they’re afraid of the criticism of their peers and others.

Mental illness is a real thing and it’s serious. You can’t simply say “control it” because it’s out of their control. If you or someone you know do have a mental illness that has been kept a secret, seek some professional help or call these for support:
